Henderson/Getty ImagesA few years ago, the 49ers lined up one of the best linebacking duos that the NFL had ever seen. NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis were patrolling the field at Candlestick Park on one of the best defenses the 49ers had produced. Bowman and Willis had little weakness in their games and they complimented each other very well. Unfortunately the duo did not have a long run. Patrick retired in 2015 after dealing with his toe injury that hampered his ability to play at the highest level. NaVorro was let go by the 49ers during the 2017 season after his own injuries and spent some time with the Raiders, but it was short lived. NaVorro Bowman came to the 49ers headquarters on Tuesday to let it be known that he was going to retire from the NFL and that he wanted to go out as a 49er. He will go down as one of the greatest players the 49ers have ever had and he has some of the biggest moments in the 49ers’ storied history. The “Pick at the Stick” and the pass breakup in the NFC Championship game against the Atlanta Falcons will always be remembered. His career unfortunately was cut short due to injuries. He famously suffered a knee injury on the goal line in the NFC Championship game in Seattle and also suffered an Achilles injury in 2016.NaVorro will always be loved by the 49ers organization and fans. He can take his place as one of the all time great 49ers. He was the definition of a professional and gave it his all every single game. Hopefully the organization keeps him around the team to provide knowledge for future generations of 49ers players. 49ers linksA lot of options available | Wes Welker has WRs that can work in the slot (Maiocco)NaVorro’s career numbers (Martin)The legend returns | NaVorro Bowman retiring (Fann)#53 retires (Smith)The way it should be | Bowman going out as a 49er (Wagoner)The 2nd of the Willis-Bowman duo calls it quits (Madson)Great career for #53 | Retires as one of the greatest 49ers ever (Madson)Hopefully he is able to develop these talented rookies | Wes on the rookie wideouts (Maiocco)OTA Week 3 (Cohn)Returning home (Inman)NaVorro (Biderman)NaVorro will be remembered by the 49ers forever | Reunited (Branch)49ers videoWeek 3 of OTAs (Cohn)
