Tokyo Sexwale has told Sky Sports News HQ he will not give up the FIFA
presidential race despite failing to receive the backing of the Confederation of
African Football (CAF). CAFs executive committee voted unanimously in favour
of Sheikh Salmans bid to become the next FIFA president on Friday. With 54 of the
total 209 votes, CAF member associations have the biggest voting bloc in the
election. Sexwale, one of the richest men in Africa, had previously told Sky
Sports News HQ that he was not planning on quitting on Friday, but said: What
happens to me will be Africas decision. But after CAFs decision, he confirmed he
had written a letter to the governing body saying he did not want to be
considered for their backing anyway.Sexwales campaign had failed to build up any
momentum in Africa and it was always likely the CAF would endorse Sheikh Salman
of Bahrain at the meeting in Kigali, Rwanda. Candidate Tokyo Sexwale outlines
the reasons why he is standing for the FIFA presidency And Salman, however, can
count on receiving all 54 African votes at the election in Zurich on
February 26.It is significant that, as president of the Asian Football
Confederation, Sheikh Salman signed a memorandum of understanding with CAF last
month.CAF president Issa Hayatou said: If we decide to support Salman is it a
crime? Who can prevent us from doing this?Sexwale, Sheikh Salman, Gianni
Infantino and Jerome Champagne all attended Fridays meeting. The only candidate
not expected to appear was Prince Ali of Jordan. Also See: Prince Ali critical

says a repeat of his seventh position in Belgium is a long shot for the Italian
Grand Prix.Alonso qualified 13th for the Monza race as McLaren struggled on its
weakest circuit of the year, one which exposes Hondas remaining deficiencies.
Alonso claimed an impressive seventh from the back row of the grid at Spa but
knows a repeat performance is unlikely this weekend.Asked if seventh was too
much of a target this weekend, he replied: Yes, too far in Monza. Its very
different and more tough for us. There are only six corners and the rest is long
straights, so we cannot make up much time in the corners. We will struggle in the
race, but we knew that, so we will tryy to enjoy and do our own race and see the
result in the end.dddddddddddd If there are any points in our pocket at the end
of the race it will be welcome and if not it will be a good learning because we
have some good experimental parts on the car that need some good
mileage.Qualifying outside the top ten means Alonso has free reign when it comes
to tyre choice and he admits starting on the hardest compound, the medium tyre,
is a possibility to try and gain some positions with a long first stint. We will
see. We have a good choice of tyres, so lets make that work. ' ' '
