What more can be said after such an epic, brutal grand final? The Bulldogs
fairytale -- breaking the AFLs longest premiership drought and becoming the
first club to win a flag from seventh on the ladder -- was as breathtaking as it
was deserved.
Cheap Air VaporMax 2018 .It made ones heart
leap for joy seeing all the old, long-suffering Dogs fans so relieved and
ecstatic when the final siren blared around the MCG.Luke Beveridge has somehow
transformed this club since taking over at the end of 2014, moulding a team
built on ruthlessness at the coalface and electric speed on the outside.Talk
about moments. Tom Boyds monster bomb from outside 50m to seal the game. Jake
Stringers snap. Kieren Jacks courage running back with the flight in the first
quarter. Lance Franklins ankle injury. Josh Kennedys two goals within minutes in
the second term. The drama of Jason Johannisens goal review. And of course, Liam
Pickens two majors in the final term as the Dogs strode towards history. In a
game where every moment mattered, it was the Sons of the West who had more
players delivering at the key stages throughout Saturdays classic decider. They
fully deserved a second premiership cup to sit beside their previous one, won
all the way back in 1954.HEROESTom Boyd: How could we not start with Boyd, one
of the most scrutinised and maligned players in recent memory? He came of age on
the grandest of stages. Some would argue hes overpaid, but he was worth every
cent during dominant game against the Swans. He took six contested marks and
booted 3.2, with his marking and second efforts a feature throughout. His
breakout performance was reminiscent of Tom Hawkins efforts during Geelongs 2011
premiership win over Collingwood, and if Boyd can continue his trajectory
upwards, he and the Dogs may follow the Cats path towards a dynasty. The Dogs
backline brilliance: Johannisen was sublime with his rebound and daring attitude
to take the game on. He was a deserved Norm Smith medallist, after collecting 33
touches (nine contested), seven marks, seven rebound 50s, nine inside 50s and
numerous dashes from defence to break the Swans open. Alongside him in the Dogs
backline was two players who epitomise the club itself - Dale Morris and Matthew
Boyd. Morris produced an extraordinary effort to play, and play well, despite
suffering a fractured back in Round 23. His chase-down tackle on Lance Franklin
set up Tom Boyds booming last quarter-goal, while Boyd was also rock solid after
an All Australian year. The two true-blue Bulldogs are both now premiership
players. The Bevo and Bob moment: Wow, what a tear-jerker. Beveridges
selflessness is lauded throughout Whitten Oval, and his decision to hand his
premiership medallion to injured skipper Murphy typified that attitude. It was
an iconic moment in Australian sport - no wonder his players love him. To do
what hes been able to do within two years at the helm of the Dogs suggests he
could drive this team towards continued greatness.VILLAINSAnother grand final
heartbreak for the Swans: Losing grand finals really cuts you to the core,
especially when you have a sniff during the game. After putting together such a
brilliant home-and-away season, the Swans entered Saturdays decider primed to
bury the demons from their woeful 2014 grand final defeat to Hawthorn. But yet
again, they have to endure another end to a season without the most important
silverware. The club will be hurting, but once the emotion subsides, they should
be able to consider 2016 a successful season having won the minor premiership
after blooding seven debutants, and boasting five All Australian players.Sydneys
ball movement: It takes courage to pull the trigger and take on the zone defence
of the Dogs but on Saturday, too often Sydney launched long down-the-line bombs,
straight into the waiting Dogs defenders and dominant aerialists. Only during
the second term, when Sydney used short passing to link up to either move the
ball quickly around or through the zone, did they look to gain ascendancy. That
was when the Swans gained the upper hand, booting six goals to edge ahead at the
long break. But for most of the match, the Bulldogs feasted on the Swans loose
kicks, scoring 63 points from Sydneys turnovers. Coupled with a loss of 24 in
contested ball, these were telling statistics. The free kick count: The grand
final certainly wasnt decided by the men in green, but the lopsided free kick
count of 20-8 in the Bulldogs favour was eyebrow-raising. There were a number of
reckless efforts that were reflected in the tally but in a close, tough
encounter in which the whistle was mostly put away, the final count was
surprising. Of particular interest was the kicking-in-danger decision against
Kieren Jack, and resulting 50-metre penalty for what clearly was a slide into
the lower part of the Sydney captains legs. Nothing can take away from the fact
the Dogs were too ferocious and had more contributors on the day, but Swans fans
can perhaps have more than one reason to be shaking their heads from Saturday.
