I can’t overstate home phenomenal that is. Credit is shared by the hogs and the excellent offensive backfield behind them for this achievement. Even more phenomenal perhaps, is the fact that they only gave up one sack against one of the more talented front fours in the NFL, and kept pressure to a minimum on the day.Here’s a very brief sack report:1st Sack: Q4 11:59, 1st & 10, CAR 31 - The only sack of the game could have been a game changing disaster. Chris Clark succeeds on initial contact one on one vs. Carlos Dunlap, but eventually allows him by on an outside speed rush. The angle is just enough for Dunlap to reach out and get a hand on Cam Newton’s throwing arm as he cocks back for a throw. The ball comes out, thankfully it takes a Carolina bounce off a Cincinnati defender’s chest and Cam somehow ends up with it again.The bye week comes at an opportune time for the offensive line, as hopefully it will be enough time for Trai Turner to clear the concussion protocol. It should be noted that Tyler Larsen has done an excellent job filling in for him though. This was also a bounce back game for Greg Van Roten and Ryan Kalil, who struggled a bit against the Falcons. Van Roten was particularly brilliant on the day, helping lead the charge on a Cam Newton rushing touchdown and C.J. Anderson receiving touchdown.Chris Clark continues to be really good as far as the expectations go for a guy who would still be available to play left tackle once the season starts. The Panthers continue to trust him without much help on that left side, and though he surrendered the most pressure of any lineman, it was well within an acceptable range. Statistically, allowing five yards a carry and seven yards a play is pretty bad, evidenced by the team’s season rankings. Just look at the play Carlos Dunlap made for the Bengals. That could have completely flipped the game result, had they recovered the fumble.Another thing that doesn’t show up on stat sheets are eye-based statistics like pressure generated, and the effect of pressure in a quarterback’s face. To that end, it was an extremely uncomfortable day for Andy Dalton, and the entire rotation more or less contributed. Kyle Love and Vernon Butler both had bounce back days, showing that maintaining effectiveness while they are on the field is crucial to our success. Obada made a name for himself, picking a really good day to have a career day. He effectively registered two sacks on Andy Dalton, and a game changing heads up interception. Some people are already crowning him the future of the Panthers pass rush, and while I would caution against that, it was an awesome step for a guy whose road to the NFL has been a strange and difficult one. But, there are some perks when you’re a very raw prospect like Obada. If your first real knowledge of the game comes from professional coaching Womens Christian McCaffrey Jersey , there are a lot fewer bad habits to break. I for one hope this is a sign of things to come, and I’m sure Rivera will factor him more heavily into the rotation going forward. The good news is that it’s the Buccaneers and Bears on a bye so there are only a handful of Must Start players to be replaced in lineups. The bad news is that if you don’t have an adequate replacement on your bench the pickings are slim. I’m not seeing a lot of starter quality players out there but there are some decent players to take a flyer on who might put up a decent score just when you need them too.Let’s start with Fantasy Pros Top 10 Waiver wire pick ups at the moment. The percent column tells what percentage of fantasy leagues have the player available.As bye week fill ins here are my picks as the four skill positions: QB Blake BortlesThis guy can put up 30 points any given week. He faces a Chiefs defense giving up the fifth most fantasy points to quarterbacks. I think Bortles will throw a ton of passes in this one.WR Dede WestbrookSee my comments about Bortles above. Now consider Westbrook is really coming on strong and getting lots of targets. He is worth a spot on your bench to see if the trend upward continues.RB Nyheim Hines As long as Andrew Luck is at quarterback, whoever is getting thetouches at running back has the potential to put up a big game. With Marlon Mack dinged up that appears to be Hines.TE Vance MacDonaldI get it, the Steelers offense looked like crap the other night. Don’t expect it to be a trend. Big Ben likes to throw to the tight end so MacDonald is a good start most weeks and that certainly applies this week against the Falcons.One guy on the list I have never heard of so I figured you probably haven’t either. Here’s a persuasive argument for wide receiver Keke Coutee. By the way...oh the fun fantasy team names I could have if Keke Coutee were a Panther. I’m not quite ready to jump on his bandwagon yet (it might have couties anyway). I recommend a wait and see approach.Of these defensive streamers I like the Patriots, Panthers the Cardinals. The Panthers match-up well with the Giants offense, same with the Cardinals at 49ers, who are living life after Jimmy Garrapollo.
