PHILADELPHIA (AP) — In a story Aug. 17 about the first game of a doubleheader between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies Logan Morrison Jersey , The Associated Press reported erroneously that the Mets broke a franchise record for runs set on Aug. 16, 2017, during their 24-4 win over the Phillies. The Mets’ previous record for runs of 23 was set on Aug. 16, 1987, against Chicago Cubs.A corrected version of the story is below:Hoskins homers again, Phillies beat Mets 9-6 to earn splitRhys Hoskins hit a three-run homer, Scott Kingery had a solo shot and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 9-6 to earn a doubleheader spitBy ROB MAADDIAP Sports WriterPHILADELPHIA (AP) — Rhys Hoskins erased an ugly start with one big swing.Hoskins hit a three-run homer, Scott Kingery had a solo shot and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 9-6 on Thursday night to split their doubleheader. In the first game, Jose Bautista hit a grand slam and had a career-high seven RBIs as the Mets set a franchise record for runs, prompting the Phillies to use two position players to pitch the final three innings of a 24-4 rout.Philadelphia manager Gabe Kapler defended the decision to use Roman Quinn and Kingery on the mound in the opener and took plenty of heat from fans and media on social media. His players backed him up.“You trust Gabe,” Hoskins said. “It’s worked. We don’t see any madness in his method.”The Phillies moved within 1½ games of NL East-leading Atlanta. The Mets began the nightcap with three straight doubles on Zach Eflin’s first four pitches. Michael Conforto’s two-run double made it 2-0.But then Hoskins crushed one high off the foul pole to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead in the bottom half against Steven Matz (5-10), just activated from the disabled list. Hoskins, who went deep in both ends of the twinbill, has 11 of his 25 homers since the All-Star break — and three in the last four games.“Rhys set the tone,” Kapler said. “We’re not down for long. We can take a punch and come out swinging.”The Phillies added three runs in the second. Kingery homered Tim Tebow Jersey , Wilson Ramos had an RBI single and Cesar Hernandez swiped home on a double steal.Eflin (9-4) gave up four runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Seranthony Dominguez got the last two outs.“I was in a funk the whole night and didn’t have my best command, but my slider saved me,” Eflin said.In the opener, Corey Oswalt (2-2) allowed four solo homers in six innings, Amed Rosario hit a leadoff homer and had three RBIs and the Mets took advantage of four errors to score 11 unearned runs.Even reliever Jerry Blevins got his first career hit, a line-drive RBI single off Kingery.“There’s nothing better,” Blevins said. “It’s something you dream about as a kid. When I tell the story, I’ll say I turned around a 95 (mph fastball). It’s pretty awesome.”The Mets scored more than 15 runs in consecutive games for the first time in franchise history. They beat Baltimore 16-5 Wednesday night.Hoskins, Maikel Franco, Nick Williams and Jorge Alfaro went deep for the Phillies.Quinn, the team’s fourth outfielder, gave up a homer to Conforto on his second pitch — a 79 mph fastball. Quinn got five outs, gave up seven runs and threw 42 pitches. Kingery went the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs.Mets right fielder Brandon Nimmo left the game after injuring his left index finger hitting a grounder to third base with two outs and the bases loaded in the third. Nimmo fell to the ground as the ball rolled to Franco, who was late tagging third but threw to first to easily get the out.X-rays on Nimmo’s finger were negative and he said he’ll have an MRI on Friday. Bautista replaced him.“I just said, ‘Oh Jay Bruce Jersey , crud,'” Nimmo said. “It hit my knuckle.”Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (1-1) gave up eight runs — four earned — and 11 hits in four innings. Mark Leiter Jr. allowed seven unearned runs and four hits in one inning. After Alfaro’s shot cut it to 5-4, the Mets broke loose for a 10-run fifth. Suarez balked in a run and exited after Bautista followed with an RBI single. Another run scored on Alfaro’s throwing error on Oswalt’s sacrifice, and Rosario drove one in on a fielder’s choice grounder.Hoskins then dropped Austin Jackson’s two-out fly ball for an error, and another run scored. After Wilmer Flores’ RBI single, Bautista connected for his 10th homer. Bautista had a chance to hit another slam when he faced Quinn in the eighth but walked on a 3-2 pitch over his head. Bautista added an RBI double off Kingery.RUN BARRAGEThe Mets’ previous record was 23 runs at the Cubs on Aug. 16, 1987.DOMINATING PHILLYThe Mets are 42-19 over their past 61 games at Citizens Bank Park since 2012.GOING DEEPBautista has 13 seasons of double-digit homers since 2005. Only Albert Pujols has more with 14.TRAINER’S ROOMMets: David Wright went 0 for 3 in his latest rehab game for Class A St. Lucie. In six innings at third base, he had one assist and one putout.Phillies: LHP Aaron Loup (left forearm strain) and lefty Austin Davis (low back tightness) were placed on the 10-day disabled list. Suarez and right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. were recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.UP NEXTRHP Noah Syndergaard (8-2, 3.22 ERA) goes for the Mets and RHP Aaron Nola (13-3, 2.28) starts for the Phillies in a marquee matchup Friday night. The Boston Red Sox appeared to be in some trouble after losing the first game of the American League Championship Series at Fenway Park with ace Chris Sale on the mound. However, that assessment turned out to be wrong, as the Red Sox have rebounded with two consecutive wins, including an 8-2 triumph in Game 3 in Houston. Jackie Bradley Jr., who had a bases-loaded double in Game 2 to key that victory, delivered a crushing blow when he hit a grand slam in the eighth inning off Houston closer Roberto Osuna. That blow took the air out of Minute Maid Park and allowed the visitors to breathe easier as they closed out the game without facing any troublesome situations."I was looking for a fastball from Osuna http://www.diamondbacksfanproshop.com/authentic-fernando-rodney-jersey ," Bradley told TBS' Lauren Shehadi. "I got a pitch I could handle and I put a good swing on it. Our guys did a great job that inning with hits by Bogey (Xander Bogaerts and (Rafael) Devers and a couple of hit batters, and that set up the whole thing." And he was cool for a gusty six innings in Game 3.quot;I was in some tough situations but I was able to get out of them. I try not to put added pressure on myself.quot;HugmteZtVf PAPeAiduubNathan Eovaldi and Dallas Keuchel both pitched impressively after rough starts. The Red Sox scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Keuchel settled down after that and did not allow any more runs in his five innings.Eovaldi allowed one run in the bottom of the first and another in the fifth, but after Steve Pearce untied the game with a home run in the top of the sixth, Eovaldi shut the Astros down in the sixth.Relievers Ryan Brasier, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez blanked the Astros in the final three innings. The Red Sox will try to push their advantage to 3-1 when they send Rick Porcello to the mound in Game 4. The Astros will counter with Charlie Morton.Porcello pitched the eighth inning in Game 2 http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-todd-frazier-jersey , helping to get to closer Craig Kimbrel, and Porcello also pitched effectively against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series.Morton has not pitched to this point in the postseason, but he was 15-3 in the regular season with a 3.13 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.The Astros are minus-140 favorites (bet $140 to win $100) to win Game 4 and square the series, while the Red Sox are plus-120, per OddsShark.Charlie Morton will try to even the ALCS in Game 4 for the Astros.Patrick Semansky/Associated Press PredictionMorton is an excellent pitcher who came through in key situations in last year's postseason. However, he has not pitched since Sept. 30.Porcello has excelled as a starter and a reliever in two different series, and he should be prepared to start.Morton must get through the first couple of innings without giving up more than a run or two. That may be difficult, and the Astros can no longer be overly confident about their bullpen. There were a lot of questions about the Red Sox's strength in that area going into the ALCS. Boston's relievers have answered several key questions to this point, but closer Craig Kimbrel appears to have issues. He is their best reliever, but he has been shaky to this point. However, Porcello has been on his game and should be again. Boston takes a tight game and takes a 3-1 lead in the series.
