Axel Witsel 2018 . -- Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are having milestone seasons, even if the Los Angeles Angels are having a forgettable one.Trout and Pujols each hit one of the Angels five home runs, and Los Angeles beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-2 on Monday.Trout went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and joined?Alex Rodriguez as one of two players to score 100 runs five times before his age-25 season. He was one of four players to come a triple shy of the cycle.Pujols hit his 586th homer, which tied Frank Robinson for ninth on the career list. Its obviously special, Trout said. Im very fortunate to play with Albert, be in the same clubhouse as him. Just looking at his career, just being in the same sentence with him, its unbelievable.Kole Calhoun was also a triple shy of the cycle, and C.J. Cron homered among his three hits for the Angels.?Matt Shoemaker (9-13) allowed two runs and seven hits over seven innings. After giving up a two-run homer to Joey Votto in the first, Shoemaker settled in to win his third straight decision. As the game went on, he really got a feel for pitching in to some of the lefties, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. One pitch that was hit out of the park early in the game, but he buckled down after that and got into the game.Trout scored his 100th run on an RBI single by Pujols in the third inning. It was Pujols 1,801st RBI, and hes now 11 shy of tying Robinson for 20th on the career list.Dan Straily (10-7) was then chased from the game after giving up a two-run homer to Cron and another home run to Jefry Marte two batters later. Straily was charged with seven runs and eight hits, walked one and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings.Weve talked a lot about the deception he has, and that wasnt the case tonight, Reds manager Bryan Price said. A very unusual night for Dan. He threw strikes, tested hitters in the zone, and they were on him. Dan hasnt really had a game like that for us this year, but hell get right back on the beam next time.Straily struggled with all of his pitches, unable to throw strikes from the start.I just didnt have it tonight, Straily said. Whatever I threw, they seemed to hit it well.Calhoun led off the fourth with a solo homer to right off Alfredo Simon to bring the Angels home run tally to five and put them ahead 8-2.Trout and Pujols hit back-to-back home runs in the first to give the Angels a 3-2 lead. Trout hit a two-run homer, and Pujols followed with a solo shot to left.Reds shortstop Jose Peraza was removed from the game in the third inning because of a facial contusion. An errant pickoff throw by Shoemaker missed Crons glove at first base and hit Peraza in the face. Zack Cozart was inserted as a pinch runner and remained in the game at shortstop. Price said Peraza, who didnt talk to media after the game, didnt have a concussion but will need to undergo dental examinations to check for chipped teeth.TRAINERS ROOMAngels: 3B Yunel Escobar has been cleared to resume baseball activities and likely will rejoin the team this weekend. Escobar was placed on the seven-day concussion list Aug. 20.UP NEXTReds: RHP Tim Adleman will make his third start since being promoted Aug. 16. RALEIGH, N.C. -- Now that North Carolina has lost its NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference championship events for this year, some other states face potential challenges in the organizations fight for discrimination-free environments. The NCAA this week took the unprecedented step of pulling seven championship events from the state over its objection to a law that can allow discrimination against LGBT people. Two days later, the ACC did the same thing -- relocating all 10 of its neutral-site championships from the state the conference has called home since its founding in 1953.At issue in North Carolina is the law known as HB2, which excludes gender identity and sexual orientation from statewide antidiscrimination protections. It also requires transgender people to use restrooms in schools and state government buildings that correspond to the gender on their birth certificate. When the NCAA announced its antidiscrimination policy last spring, it said it was tracking the actions of legislatures in several states but did not identify them. A questionnaire event organizers must complete during the bidding process asks them to identify any laws that might lead to discrimination. In announcing the moves, the NCAA pointed out that North Carolinas situation was unique in that it has the only statewide transgender bathroom law in the nation. Plus, five states and several cities dont allow public employees and representatives of public institutions to travel there because of HB2.Here are four states that might eventually wind up on the NCAAs radar:----TEXASRepublican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has suggested the state will take up school bathroom access in 2017, and the state is leading an 11-state lawsuit that accuses the federal government of turning schools into a massive social experiment. Voters last November overturned a Houston ordinance that extended nondiscrimination protections to gay and transgender people. Opponents used a campaign featuring the slogan, No Men in Womens Bathrooms. San Antonio is scheduled to host the 22018 Final Four and Dallas is hosting first- and second-round games in 2018.
Voetbalshirt Kevin De Bruyne. Dallas will host the Womens Final Four next spring.----GEORGIAThough Republican Gov. Nathan Deal in March vetoed a religious freedom bill that critics say would have limited LGBT peoples rights, some conservatives have vowed to revive the measure -- known as HB757 -- in 2017. State Sen. Josh McKoon, R-Columbus, sponsored the bill that the NFL has said, if passed, could jeopardize Atlantas bid for future Super Bowls. The NCAA mens basketball South Regional semifinals and final is set for Atlanta in 2018, while the Division I mens and womens tennis championships are scheduled for Athens in 2017.----TENNESSEEOfficials at Memphis have said any decision about the 2017 South Regional semifinals and finals -- which theyre scheduled to host -- rests with the NCAA after the state passed a law that allows therapists to decline to see patients based on religious values and personal principles. That led to a lawsuit in June filed by gay rights activists, who claim it targets LGBT people. It also led the American Counseling Association to cancel its planned conference in Nashville -- which also is scheduled to host opening-weekend games in the 2018 mens basketball tournament.----MISSISSIPPIThe state hasnt hosted any predetermined NCAA championship events since 2001 because the Confederate battle flag appears on the state flag. Appealing a judges ruling against a law that was supposed to take effect July 1 likely wont do the Magnolia State any favors in the sports organizations eyes. The religious objection law signed by Republican Gov. Phil Bryant remains blocked after a federal judge ruled it unconstitutional, with U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves in his ruling calling it the states attempt to put LGBT people back in their place. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last month refused to unblock the law.
