Louis Blues absence from top spot in the TSN.The Winnipeg Goldeyes found out that even a six-run lead is not safe when playing the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Danny Pulfer helped Gary battled back from a 7-1 deficit to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-8 on Tuesday night. The loss drops the Goldeyes below .500 for the first time all season. Pulfer homered in the eighth to pull Gary within one and then he drove in the winner in the ninth inning. The win completes a four-game series sweep for the RailCats over the Goldeyes. In his second game back with the Goldeyes, Tyler Graham used his speed to help generate the games opening run. He led off with a hustle double, stole third base, and then scored on a Mike Coles infield single. That would be the start of a big inning for the Goldeyes, who would make it 2-0 on a Josh Mazzola sacrifice fly. Ryan Scoma followed and battled a full count before blasting a Will Krout offering over the wall in center. The two-run home run was Scomas first of the season and Winnipeg took a four run lead into the second. With the score now 4-1 in the fifth, the RailCats committed a pair of fielding errors on the first two batters of the inning and Mazzola would make them pay instantly. He hit a towering shot over the leftfield wall and the three-run home run made it 7-1. A two run double off the bat of Brian Kolb cut the lead to 7-3 in the sixth and the potential Gary comeback got its first big push. In the same inning, with the Goldeyes holding an 8-4 lead in the sixth, Winnipeg had runners on second and third with less than two outs but could not find a way to cash them in.
Denzelle Good Jersey. That would prove to be a big missed opportunity. A three-run game in the eighth, Goldeyes reliever Brendan Lafferty walked the first batter of the inning. Pulfer followed that with a home run over the wall in left to make it a one run game. Mike Massaro – on his fifth hit of the game - tied it with a base hit up the middle, scoring Chase Tucker who was hit by a pitch earlier. Closer Patrick Keating was brought in and got the final two outs of the inning, but all of a sudden it was a brand new ballgame. With one out in the ninth, Brian Kolb slashed a triple down the right field line, joining Massaro in Garys five hit party. The next batter, Pulfer, hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to give the RailCats their first lead of the night, one that would hold as the final. Taylor Sewitt worked a scoreless eighth to improve to 3-0 in relief. Marco Gonzalez came on in the ninth for his third save, stranding the potential tying run at first base. Patrick Keating took the loss to fall to 4-1. Hardy took the no decision after going 5 2/3 innings in his 11th start of the season. He struck out five while allowing four runs on eight hits. Following a travel day on Wednesday, the Goldeyes begin a ten game road trip through the CanAm League. The stretch begins on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT when Winnipeg visits the Quebec Capitales. All Goldeyes road action can be heard on TSN 1290 with play-by-play voice Paul Edmonds.
