How do I respond to a cease-and-desist letter? | Forum

A few days ago, my company received a cease and desist letter. I googled the issue and found some boilerplate responses. Can I respond on my own without the help of a lawyer? Perhaps one of you has had the same experience?

If you've received a serious accusation of intellectual property infringement and you realize that you're probably really guilty, I wouldn't respond on your own if I were you. Only a professional lawyer will be able to properly prepare and responding to a cease and desist letter, this is a very complex legal issue with many intricacies. I work in a large IT company. We respond to such letters all the time, but we have a large legal department.
