STATE COLLEGE, Pa. Discount Pacers Jerseys . -- Penn State said Friday it wont fight a $2.4 million fine stemming from a five-year federal investigation that found the university repeatedly violated campus crime reporting requirements, including in the case of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, who is now serving decades in prison on child sexual abuse charges.Penn State President Eric Barron said the university is paying the record fine even though it disagrees with some of the findings in a 239-page investigative report released by the U.S. Department of Education this month.Investigators found that Penn State failed to comply with various aspects of the 1990 campus crime reporting law known as the Clery Act, including not issuing warnings about potential threats and underreporting crimes in annual statistics submitted to the government.Barron said Penn State has made a significant commitment to preventing sex crimes and ensuring strict compliance with campus crime reporting requirements. All employees are now trained on the issues surrounding sex crimes and their responsibilities in reporting crimes, Barron said. The university has also established a telephone hotline and an online system for anonymously reporting sex crimes, he said.It is Penn States goal to not only meet the standards articulated by the Department of Education, as we believe we currently do, but to set a new standard for Clery compliance in higher education, Barron said.Investigators cited Penn State for twice failing to warn students and employees about Sandusky -- after administrators were told he abused a boy in a team shower in 2001 and as officials were being summoned to a grand jury and the scope of his behavior was becoming clearer a decade later. The Department of Education said Penn States police department concealed its investigation into an earlier report involving Sandusky and a boy in a team shower. Police didnt record the 1998 matter on their daily crime log even though university policy required the log describe the type, location and time of every criminal incident. The university argued that police couldnt determine whether the interaction rose to the level of a sex offense and because it was unclear a crime occurred, there was no need to log it. But the Department of Education noted campus police logged far less serious matters, including someone sleeping in a stairwell.Sandusky, arrested in 2011 and convicted in 2012, is serving 30 to 60 years in prison. He maintains his innocence and is appealing.Former athletic director Tim Curley and former vice president Gary Schultz await trial along with former president Graham Spanier on charges of endangering the welfare of children and failing to properly report suspected abuse. They deny the accusations against them. The Department of Education report also said Penn State fostered a belief among athletes that rules didnt apply to them.In one instance, then-head coach Joe Paterno had his secretary email administrators to say hed take care of disciplining players involved in an off-campus fight, the report said.In another, Paterno had a text message sent to players telling them if they went to the universitys judicial affairs to answer code-of-conduct complaints, theyd be thrown off the team, the report said. The previous record Clery Act fine was $357,500 against Eastern Michigan University in 2007, reduced to $350,000 in a settlement. MONTREAL -- The Montreal Impact are hoping to ride a hot streak all the way to a second Amway Canadian Championship. The Impact will host the Vancouver Whitecaps in Wednesday nights first leg of the two-game, total-goals final at Saputo Stadium. Montreal, which won the first ACC title in 2008, bounced back from a 2-0 loss in Toronto on April 24 with a shocking 6-0 win at home one week later for a spot in this years final. Impact goalie Evan Bush, who backs up Troy Perkins in Montreals Major League Soccer games, will once again get the start against Vancouver after he helped unseat the four-time defending Voyageur Cup champion Reds. "He works hard every day," Impact coach Marco Schallibaum said. "Its not a present. He merits these games in the Canadian cup." Montreal fans were upset with the Impacts outing in their first game of this years ACC competition at BMO Field. "We went back after and we looked at it and said it was just a bad performance," Bush said after practice Tuesday. "You know, a lot of the same guys played the next game against Toronto. It just so happened we didnt play very well in Toronto. "We came back and we were focused. Youre not always going to win 6-0 but throughout the course of the season weve put together some good games. I dont know if that game necessarily was a statement game but it was an emotional game for everybody at the stadium and within the team it gives us a lot of confidence going into this next leg here." The Impact are coming off a spectacular 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Italian defender Matteo Ferrari scored his first MLS goal off a corner kick in injury time after he was charged with an own-goal that gave Salt Lake an early lead. That win left Montreal tied with Kansas City and Houston for second in the Eastern Conference with 20 points, one point behind New York. The Impact are 4-0-1 at home with a fifth win coming in the second leg of the ACC against Toronto on May 1. "You see the importance of a home game," Bush said. "Last time against Toronto they did what they needed to do in a home game. They put a lot of pressure on us. We responded with the way we did but we dont want to dig ourselves a hole and have to go to Vancouver and make uup a goal differential so were looking to get off on a good foot here and make a good result tomorrow. "Its nice to be at home knowing that we can prepare and were here, having played a lot of games, we dont have to travel all the way to the West Coast," said Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier, a native of Brossard, Que. "That helps that we have just played at home and were already settled in here." Bernier acknowledged that hosting the opening leg puts pressure on Montreal to come out strong. "Were going to play for a good result," Bernier said. "Hopefully we have no goals against and we have a few goals in the bank but we have to be smart. We know that its a two-leg series so we dont want to go there giving something that gives them a little bit more boost knowing that they have an away goal or something like that. Were going to try to get the best result possible that puts us a little bit one step in the door in the second leg." The Whitecaps, runners-up to Toronto in each of the last four ACC tournaments, also find themselves coming into the final on a high note as they get ready to face a new opponent for the Canadian title. Vancouver beat Los Angeles 3-1 on Saturday for its first-ever win over the Galaxy. The Whitecaps, who won both legs of its ACC semi-final against FC Edmonton, are currently seventh in the MLS Western Conference with a 3-4-3 mark. They will host the second leg of the ACC final at B.C. Place on May 29. Midfielder Russell Teibert of Niagara Falls, Ont., scored his first two MLS goals in the victory over Los Angeles. He said the Whitecaps have to use that momentum to help them excel against Montreal, and that given Vancouvers struggles in Canadian championship play the past two years all of the Whitecaps will be "pumped up and ready to play" the Impact. "It is a very big game, Canadian championship, and we do want to be the best team in Canada," Teibert said. "So we need to take (the win over L.A.) forward and build off it. "Everybody on our team wants to dedicate (a Canadian title) to our club and our fans. We do owe it to them."
