What Does Error Code 6175 Mean?

August 30, 2010 by Chief Mechanic

According to Intuit, QuickBooks Error 6175  is caused as the QuickBooks Database Server Manager couldn’t start or stop.  The Database Server Manager is used in multi-user mode to manage .nd files and keep track of the location associated with company file (.qbw).  Possible factors behind this error are:

the server hosting the organization file (.qbw) is busy performing other tasks

firewall application is blocking communication between the computer that generated the error plus the server in which the company file (.qbw) is stored

If the error message is an isolated event, it would likely imply that the server faced a variety of requests so it couldn’t process on time.  Simply waiting or rebooting the server will typically restore normal operation.  If the error appears with greater regularity and blocked communication as a result of improperly configured firewall software could be ruled out, your server can be having difficulty operating underneath the loads being put on it.

This error is discussed in this Intuit knowledge base article along side specific port settings utilized by certain QuickBooks programs.
