Do you remember MapleStory?

Back in 2003, an original free-to-play 2D side-scrolling MMO was hugely popular. Developed because of the South Korean team of developers, Wizet, the action featured a lot of Maplestory M Mesos grinding and esoteric farming routines that hardcore players fully embraced. However, the optimistic world and fanciful aesthetic that allowed players to build their perfect avatar attracted a quick crowd at the same time that primarily played to socialize and type their avatar. In 2005, the experience was released to Western audiences and, in Runescape-esque fashion, it became a cult classic.

Fast to 2015 and MapleStory 2 was launched in South Korea. The game would be a massive departure in the original grind fest. The leveling curve is made easier due to an abundance of quest and players found themselves managing combat resources in contrast to just spam clicking attacks on enemies all day long.

However, probably the most apparent change was the graphics -- gone were the side-scrolling screens and, of their place,  stood a completely 3D environment with Minecraft inspired geography. Naturally, another dimension added another layer of combat maneuverability and, the very first time, the MapleStory franchise felt being a modern MMO.

Sure, it's cutesy charm and increased exposure of styling your avatar will shut off some Western fans, but those that manage to embrace the aesthetic could possibly be surprised at how authentically social an MMO can appear when every avatar can be a visual representation with the player behind the laptop keyboard. Players are notable for how their avatar looks, moves and emotes and, I've been told this extra layer of personality is just one of MapleStory 2's biggest strengths.

A Maplestory... Battle Royale?

I experienced a chance to interview the growth team of MapleStory 2 in a launch party of sorts on August, 21st. It was an invite-only gathering of top MapleStory 2 streamers, content creators, and influencers and I am not any of these things.

Initially, it would have been a bit surreal seeing a great deal enthusiasm and die-hard fanaticism over MapleStory.

"They're will not be that many casual MMO games in existence and we are certainly proud to supply one"

In hindsight, it shouldn't have already been all that surprising. the initial MapleStory, as of yet, boasts over 273 million characters created which is easily one from the most popular MMO's of them all.  MapleStory 2 is thriving in South Korea and China to the past 3 years and, after two recent beta periods for Western audiences, it turned out finally the perfect time to launch a definitively global Maple Story 2 version.

And no game can be complete and not using a stand-alone Battle Royale mode. After all, MapleStory 2 is intending to attract Western gamers in 2018 as well as the universe is now in unanimous agreement that Battle Royales are the approach to do it. Not even MapleStory 2 is safe from your seemingly omnipotent genre.

However, in creating their version with the worlds most  inaccurate chicken dinner maker, MapleStory developers made a conscious decision and keep it casual, playful, and to not mechanically intensive.

Maplestory 2 developers have previously released their  seperate Mushking Royale Pre-Season client (it is possible to download it within the Nexon launcher) and it will likely be live before games full launch (which still includes the action mode) on October 10th. The adorable battle towards the death features squad mode, tracked stats, leaderboards and exclusive prizes for your players who find a way to gain their Maplestory M Mesos for sale regions #1 spot.
