CLEVELAND -- Relief ace Andrew Miller is constantly make progress together with his Minor League rehab assignment as his return to MLB The Show 18 Stubs your Indians approaches.
The left-hander allowed a success and struck out one during one shutout inning for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, anf the husband will throw again Tuesday, Indians manager Terry Francona said. Francona said the blueprint is to pitch Miller on alternating days, using the hope he'll toss in consecutive games by the end on the week. If all goes toward plan, Francona said Miller will likely be evaluated and come back to Cleveland's bullpen.
"He's gonna pitch [Tuesday] in [Double-A] Akron," Francona said, ahead from the Tribe's three-game homestand with all the Pirates on Monday. "Toward the end from the week, in the weekend, he'll turn back-to-back, then we'll see maybe he's prepared to join us."
Miller was placed about the 10-day disabled list on May 26 with right knee inflammation, and hubby began the rehab assignment Tuesday. In those three relief appearances, Miller has allowed one run -- a homer -- and a couple hits in three innings. He's also struck out four without issuing a walk.
Francona said as Miller actually starts to work toward midseason form, the effects are becoming favorable. However, if the reliever experience any setbacks, Francona said he wouldn't hesitate to prolong the rehab stint.
"He's doing good," Francona said. "I think he's feeling good about things, therefore we're anxious about that.
"You hate to attend two months to construct somebody up then think, 'Well, we might have waited another week.'"
Miller's pending return will further bolster the Tribe's bullpen, which acquired two-time All-Star Brad Hand and right-handed specialist Adam Cimber on the Padres so they could earn top catching prospect Francisco Mejia on Thursday. Hand a 3.05 ERA, 24 saves and 65 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings with San Diego. The left-hander allowed your home run within his Cleveland debut Friday, and hasn't pitched since.
