I really don't think that you're giving MTX enough credit tbh, many of these matches that are doing really really well that have plenty of MTX are different to RS in a few ways - they have no end goal concerning progress, there isn't any 5.4b xp mark where you go oh shit okay there is nothing more that MTX can get me and you then go oh fuck jesus christ I wasted lots of money on thisparticular Games with this kinda MTX model do not have a finish point and that is by design, people that spin 5.4b (or even max/a couple 99s/120s ect) are fulfilled with an emptiness that is somewhat unparalleled and so they will quit after they fulfill that goal, additional games don't have that kinda goal.
Similarly other games mostly had MTX in their inception, RS runescape players are largely conservative in nature (though you could argue that this has changed lately ) and so big changes like including MTX and making the runescape game mostly MTX centric will drive them off, and it has in droves, to OSRS. I do however agree that the runescape game is far too complex for the overall market, particularly the new runescape player experience but also because you've mentioned having to remember each and every key on your computer and what action it corresponds to, the customisability is in some way the downfall of RS3. I really don't feel that you correct though, as the others have mentioned among those matters with RS3 is you can make it as easy or as complex as you want.

When it's your thing you could play the heritage interface mode with the extra activity bar now and chuck full revo on and be nice for every single boss ingame, you're not gont get kill time documents but certainly what's available for you OSRS Gold especially with hotkeys, I think that is what they have been going for with RS3
